Gemotions

Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, warming Amelia's face as she sipped her coffee. The familiar scent of brewing beans and cinnamon toast filled the air. She hummed a little tune, completely absorbed in the morning's crossword puzzle, a pencil tapping lightly against her teeth as she pondered a particularly tricky clue. A faint smile played on her lips, a comfortable sort of stillness settling over her.

Then, while reaching for another slice of toast, her fingers brushed against something tucked in the back of a drawer. It was a faded envelope, its edges softened with age. Her name was scrawled on the front in her own, youthful handwriting, the letters looping with an almost frantic energy. Intrigued, Amelia carefully pulled it out.

Inside, she found a letter she’d written to her college roommate, Sarah, years ago. The words felt alien and yet familiar, a young woman's outpouring of doubt and hope laid bare. She chuckled softly, the ghost of a shared memory flitting through her.
